.:: BENCHMARKING AGAINST OTHER CITIES ::.

The Urban Transport Benchmarking Initiative was launched by the European Commission Directorate General for Energy and Transport in 2003. Benchmarking is the process of comparing the operational performance of a city with similar cities elsewhere to gain an understanding of how cities compare on transport characteristics.
Twenty six different cities from across Europe participated in this benchmarking initiative. DTO participated on behalf of the Greater Dublin Area.

Transport Benchmarks

Existing survey data and data provided by GDA transport operators and local authorities was used to facilitate the benchmarking of Dublin against other cities over a broad range of common indicators. DTO also provided data for Dublin for one of the five specialised working groups, focusing on demand management.

The Final 'Year 1' Reports were published in July 2004. DTO also participated in the second year of the UT Benchmarking Initiative, and in December 2005 hosted a site visit for the Demand Management Working Group.

The 'Year 2' results were published in July 2005.

The final report of the Urban Transport Benchmarking Initiative are available at the project website:
